Get Started in Second Life

What is Second Life?

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by almost six million people from around the globe.

If you're new to this whole Second Life thing, here's some help to get you started. I know it looks like a lot, but you'll fly through it.  Most of these steps the SL client software will guide you through, so don't worry.

  1. Create a new account and join Second Life.
  2. On this page you can choose your own name. The challenge is to be creative but not profane. Most clever wins!
  3. Don't be shy about entering your birthday; it's a simplistic form of protection but its better than nothing.
  4. Enter the email address that you read most often that's NOT your work email, since you will receive "in game" messages in it.
  5. Need an email address? You can get free reliable webmail from the following: Yahoo, Google or BigString.
  6. On the next page you can choose your initial appearance. Go ahead and pick one of the premade looks, you'll be able to change your appearance as much as you want later.
  7. On the next page enter as much information as you're comfortable to give. Understand that if you plan on keeping this account and do business with it, you will want to put in relevant info. Don't forget your password and click on "Agree to the Terms of Service!"
  8. On the next page you get to choose if you want a free account or upgrade. Upgraded accounts have more options in Secondlife but are not required to participate in the event. Skip this step for now, you can upgrade later.
  9. Congratulations, you're a Second Life citizen! On the next page download the software appropriate for your computer.
  10. Follow the instructions to download and install the Second Life client software.
  11. You say you already have an account but haven't played in awhile? You can download the software directly by pointing your web browser to the following link http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php

OK so now you're all set! To join the Kelly Services gang on our own private island point your browser to the following Slurl and click the orange "Teleport Now" button.

The Second Life software will start automatically. Enter the username and password you created earlier and prepare to see the cool step Kelly Services is taking into The Metaverse and Web 3.0!
